Microsoft cofounder Bill Gates, had been scrutinizing a lot about artificial intelligence lately, and now finally, he wrote it all on paper.

He published a seven-page letter recently and named it "The Age of AI has Begun.” He shared his views on the future of AI and also wrote about the developing models of   AI are "as fundamental as the creation of the microprocessor, the personal computer, the internet, and the mobile phone."

Bill Gates had initially expressed his excitement for the future of AI and how it could be used to provide medical assistance and advice to people where doctors are not easily accessible and also employed as a tutor in the education sector.

Gates and His Views

The letter was published on the same day as Google launched Bard; and a week later when OpenAI announced the launch of its hyper AI model, GPT-4.

However, Gates, in his letter, also cited concerns around artificial intelligence which included the risks of mankind misusing it. He also stated the possible rise of superintelligent AI that could "establish their own goals" as AI will improve further in the future.

He consecutively elaborated on the ideas as to how AI can be employed to improve productivity and help improve global inequities in the healthcare sector, education sector, and workplace.

He cited AI as, 'A white-collar worker available to help you with various tasks.’

Gates cited how AI could be used in the workforce as a "digital personal assistant" to enhance employee productivity and decrease time of lengthy tasks.

Digital Helper for Healthcare Workforce

Gates also wrote in his letter that AI could help healthcare workers in certain ways that might involve completing paperwork, filing insurance claims, and drafting doctor's appointments and notes and help them concentrate on emergency tasks more efficiently.

AI is already used in healthcare in many areas like analyzing medical data along with designing drugs. However, the next wave of AI tools and models could be of assistance in calculating dosage levels and also predicting the side effects of any medication.

For the Education Sector

Gates said, “Teachers aren't going away — but they'll need to adapt.” He predicted that AI could transform the education sector in the next 5-10 years by delivering tailored content to adapt to a student's learning style.

AI models in the future could also assist teachers by helping them plan courses and helping  students' assess topics.

Gates ended his letter by saying "To make the most of this remarkable new technology, we'll need to both guard against the risks and spread the benefits to as many people as possible.

The Future and AI

Whatever may be in store for us in the future when it comes to AI is still unpredictable. But Bill Gates’ letter at least gives us the view of how efficiently and carefully AI can be employed in various sectors to make work easy, make people productive, and help them concentrate on more important tasks.
