The Rise of Deepfake AI Music

Deepfake technology has been around for a while and is becoming increasingly sophisticated, with the ability to create realistic videos, images, and even music. AI-generated music, or "deepfake music," is a type of synthetic music created using machine learning algorithms to analyze and replicate musical patterns and styles.

One of the most significant advantages of AI-generated music is its ability to create new works that sound like they were composed by humans. By feeding a machine learning algorithm a large dataset of existing music, the AI can learn to recognize different musical patterns and styles. It can then generate entirely new pieces of music that sound similar to the original works.

Despite these concerns, AI-generated music has the potential to revolutionize the music industry by providing new tools for musicians, producers, and composers. With the ability to create new works quickly and easily, AI-generated music could change the way we think about music creation and consumption.

What is AI music exactly?

AI music generation is the process of creating music using machine learning algorithms. The algorithms analyze and learn from a vast dataset of existing music, identify patterns, and use them to generate entirely new pieces of music.

One of the primary advantages of AI music generation is the ability to create new works of music quickly and easily. With machine learning algorithms, composers and musicians can create multiple variations of a melody or a chord progression in a short amount of time, allowing them to experiment with different musical ideas and quickly produce finished pieces.

Another advantage of AI music generation is the potential for collaboration between humans and machines. With the help of AI algorithms, musicians can enhance their creative process by generating melodies or chord progressions that they would not have thought of on their own.

However, there are also concerns about the use of AI-generated music, such as the potential for copyright infringement and the ethical implications of using machine-generated music without proper accreditation. It is essential to address these issues to ensure that the use of AI in music generation is ethical and legal.

Taking Look at the Recent Events

Recently, a song using AI deepfakes of The Weekend and Drake’s voices went viral, but the fact is that neither of them were involved in the creation. In the meantime, Grimes took to Twitter to announce 50% royalties on any AI-generated music that uses her voice and also declared that she will be interested in “killing copyright,” which might also undermine her capabilities to collect royalties in the very first place.

On the other hand, musicians like YACHT and Holly Herndon have embraced AI as a tool to push the limits of musical creativity. YACHT provided training to an AI on a timeline of 14 years of their music and then synthesized the results into the album “Chain Tripping.” Herndon, meanwhile, created Holly+, a website that provides complete freedom to anyone for creating deepfake music using her own voice.

Although Herndon may openly invite people to experiment with AI art using her likeness, most artists don’t even have the slightest idea that people can model their voice to create AI Deepfake music.

Overall, AI music generation is a rapidly evolving field with the potential to revolutionize the music industry by providing new tools for composers, musicians, and producers. However, it is crucial to balance innovation with ethical and legal considerations.
